Organic Seeds

Starting afresh the organic way

The market for organic products has been on a steady increase over the years, especially for flower and vegetable seeds. At the moment it is easier for you to get organic seeds anywhere even in garden stores.

So far there is a good supply of seeds for home gardeners, but there is still so much room for more. The biggest challenge that farmers have come to experience over the years is the lack of organic seeds. However things might soon change if the State of Organic Seeds project by Organic Seed Alliance comes to pass.

According to OSA senior scientist, John Navazio, the main aim is to create more awareness for organic seeds. These are seeds that are grown in certified organic soils, and everything about their growth process is organic, from the fertilizers to the pest control mechanisms. These seeds are also not supposed to be treated with fungicides that are not organic.

The beauty of organic farming is that we have to worry less about chemicals, pollution and pesticide residue on the fruits.

Interestingly enough, you do not necessarily need organic seeds for your organic garden, the entire concept lies in how well you treat your garden (soil and the plants) as soon as the germination is complete.

According to Burpee CEO George Ball, the gardeners who use organic seeds will certainly pay a little more not because they are buying seeds that are better, but because they are self-righteous about it. This is because these individuals are always looking to feel like they are in harmony with the world, and not working against it.

According to Nichols Garden Nursery’s Rose Marie Nichols McGee, over time there are a lot of seed sellers who are looking for seed varieties that are sturdier hence an increase in sales. To meet these needs we try so hard to offer them more in terms of variety for the vegetables that they use, in a bid to support these gardeners.
